Think Green
How Can You Have a Green Lawn and Still be Environmentally “Green”?
That’s what Shoreline Sprinkling has been helping customers do since 1983 – and 25 years later – we are still green. That’s because we care about the environment and we are doing our part to conserve water. Understanding that water is not a renewable resource, we have learned to conserve and promote sustainability. It won’t be long until the rest of the country figures out that we, in Michigan, are the trustees of 1/5 of the world’s fresh water. Shoreline Sprinkling can help you conserve water too with Drip Irrigation. Sub Surface Drip Irrigation is also available with Rain Bird’s new patent-pending Copper Shield Technology which protects the water emitter from root intrusion creating a long-lasting, low maintenance sub-surface drip irrigation system for use under turf grass or shrub and ground cover areas.
What is Sustainability?
According to the EPA, “Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, and permits fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations. Sustainability is important to making sure that we have, and will continue to have, the water, materials, and resources to protect human health and our environment.”
Drip Irrigation Can Help Lead the Way
Drip irrigation is a rising trend in irrigation that we have been using for years to help keep our clients green. What is it? Drip irrigation put drops of water steadily to the specific areas that need it. It is applied to the soil or root zone. The advantage of a drip irrigation system over a standard overhead sprinkling system is that more of the water gets to the specific plants with less run off and evaporation.
Imagine taking a dry sponge and holding it under a running faucet. Have you ever thought about how much water runs off the sponge instead of being absorbed into the sponge? The sponge cannot absorb the running water fast enough so a lot of the water runs down the drain. This is similar to what happens with traditional irrigation systems. Runoff and water waste have been “accepted” for many years. Take that same sponge example and place it under a dripping faucet, and you can see the drastic improvement by using a constant dripping source of water? This is the basis of drip irrigation. Shoreline Sprinkling has been applying this green technology to landscaping for years, reducing the consumption and the overall cost of water.
Shoreline Sprinkling is leading the way with sub-surface drip irrigation, a drip irrigation system under the grass! Shoreline Sprinkling is proud to have designed and installed West Michigan’s first sub-surface drip irrigation system in a LEEDS pilot GREEN home, designed by the engineering department of Grand Valley State University. By applying the latest technology and pioneering the design and installation, Shoreline developed the subsurface system. Where a normal irrigation system may consume 2500 gallons a month, a complete sub surface drip irrigation system reduces the water consumption by 75% and still achieves the same results. Consider drip irrigation for your next project.
